Jessica Gomes on finding beauty in diversity
Model Jessica Gomes has stepped out from in front of the camera and is laying the foundation for a new beauty movement that focuses less on how others perceive you and more about how you perceive yourself. Her new skincare brand is a labour of love and is intertwined with the ethos that in diversity there is beauty and from that comes strength.

As a female entrepreneur who is part of the world of beauty, what is your beauty philosophy?
Keep it simple, straight to the point and for a good cause.
How did your journey into the world of modelling begin?
I started when I was 10 years old. My mother put me into grooming and deportment classes and it all started from there!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Just be yourself and don’t worry, you're enough. And choose your friends wisely.
How do you create balance in your life?
I think it's important to take 5 minutes out of your day and just sit and do nothing. Get rid of your phone and just reflect and check in with yourself.
What inspired you to start Equal Beauty?
To have control over my future and to start something from nothing!
What is the ethos behind your new beauty brand?
A curated edit of luxury and travel friendly products which enhance and support your own beauty needs naturally and effectively.
What is the most important business lesson you have learnt on your journey so far?
Always be resourceful and just never give up.
Tell us about your hero product for EB?
The Super Mist. It's an anti pollution spray with moisture lock technology and is a super hydrator.
What are your future plans for the business?
I want to grow Equal Beauty as much as I can and keep expanding all over the world. I want to continue to spread positivity and a support network for everyone.
How do you stay grounded when travelling around the world?
I look after myself very well. As I've gotten older and wiser I've realised that I need my early nights, good food and my creature comforts to keep me sane. I do not drink either which I think helps a lot with staying grounded.
Where is your favourite place to escape to?
I love Perth. I love John street Cafe and Cottesloe, it's my fav. Plus I get to see my family and my nephews!
What are your travel essentials?
My vitamins, my pj's, jeans and a t-shirt. Of course I can’t live without my Equal Beauty products!
What does your perfect day look like?
Wake up, have a coffee, go for a walk and start work. I love to work it makes me feel good. I then catch up with loved ones for dinner and watch a film.
What life lessons have you learnt along the way?
I've learnt that you really need to be precious with your time and who you give your energy to. It's crucial to have people around you who are supporting you and pushing power to you. Otherwise it's a difficult road when you have negative energy around you. Your team needs to be tight and light.
